    Anglophilia

Don’t know when the recent American obsession with everything British came about, but it’s kind of creepy. The thought first struck me tonight as I first saw the promos for the UK show The Only Way is Essex (English Jersey Shore) to be syndicated in the States. While I was on the thought, it clicked that this Anglophilia had been creeping in slowly but surely via our film and tv for a couple of years now. Chances are that one of your favorite American characters on one of your favorite American shows or movies is played by a Brit.

Let’s go through some examples shall we…

    1. Hugh Laurie as Dr. House

    2. Gary Oldman and Christian Bale in Batman

    3. Ian Mcshane as Al Swearengen on Deadwood

    4. Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead

    5. Dominic West + Idris Elba as Jimmy McNulty + Stringer Bell on The Wire

    6. Ross McCall as Joe Liebgott + Matthew Keller on Band of Brothers + White Collar

    7. Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as Wayne and Dahlia Malloy on The Riches

    8. Hannah Ware as Emma Kane on BOSS

    9. Andrew Garfield most notably as Eduardo Saverin but soon to be Peter Parker!

    and finally…

    10. This Tool that shall remain nameless!

    life update

I’ve finally graduated from college and have entered the great unknown. Hoping to hit ground running in 2012 and continue making some proper use my five + years in l’music biz in L.A. and in Nashville with this music industry degree o’ mine. Luckily, I’ll be greeted by this stiff head wind known as the economy, but hey, such is life. Here’s to hopefully busting my butt developing and releasing an artist and album you’ll no doubt download off of The Pirate Bay. :)

    January Transfer Window

    Arsenal…

    • I’ve pretty much resigned to the idea that no major signing will surface in this narrow window of opportunity. Yes yes, Thierry Henry just broke out of the Red Bulls for a short spell at the AFC and has hit the ground running in more ways than one. If he can deliver even 1/2, 1/3, or 1/10 of what he delivered in his time at Highbury and The Emirates, then it’ll be a major step towards finishing in that top 4, and most importantly, over Tottenham.

Speaking of Loan Deals, two legends have come back into the fold over at the BPL in this transfer window. Two of which, are very near and dear.

    • Robbie Keane - The latest Galaxy Striker DP signing over from Tottenham (gags). As classy as he is a man’s man. He’s been training over at Aston Villa and with the recent horrific injury sustained by Heskey, Keane has decided to suit up and help out AVFC in the month or so Heskey will be out. Of course, this follows the marquee MLS loan transfer deal of the season…

    Landon Donovan…

    • After a successful loan spell in 2010 with Everton, David Moyes hopes to make lightning strike twice with Landon in the scousers hopes of finishing in the midtable of the top flight, yet again this year. That makes two of the Galaxy’s biggest attacking assets in the hands of a clearly much more rough-and-tumble style of play where the pace is quicker and the injuries more horrific. Luckily, the Galaxy and these clubs have taken some serious insurance policies on these guys and in the event of a tragedy, LA will be handsomely compensated.

    Some not so hot news…

    • Omar Gonzalez after years of being given a blind eye was finally called up for the January scrub camp of U.S. Senior newbies with Klinsmann in preparation of two nothing friendlies with Panama and Venezuela. The fact that Omar is not even a senior starter when Tim Ream has been setting the world ablaze with his glaringly excruciating mediocrity continues to baffle the mind. Omar opted out of the scrub camp and chose to go the loan route as well as two of his Galaxy teammates as he was to ride the wave of his MLS defender of the year accolades. FC Köln were to be the lucky recipients and on Omar’s first day he was knocked in a bad challenge by FELLOW AMERICAN Timmy Chandler and pop went the Achilles; One of the worst injuries a player could ever sustain. Only Shakespeare himself could put pen to paper and rival the misfortune of this tragic irony.
      • Brek Shea’s been given some time this window by training with the AFC. As a Dallas player, I’m glad to hear that is the extent of his deal, but as a U.S. supporter, I would’ve hoped to at least see Shea eligible to compete in some reserves games to up his level and technicality. He’s a diamond in the rough and is as green as an avocado. But metaphors aside, much of the weight of U.S. success in 2014 is going to be placed on this Texans shoulders and a loan deal, I feel, would’ve been 10x more beneficial than flying to England for a glorified gym membership.

Ultimately, it’s good to see our MLS players get a fair shake as the league continues to be on the up and up. Fortunately, with these new TV deals in place as well as the worldwide exposure brought on by the DB23 signing and winning of the 2011 cup, credit is being given where credit is due.
